A Bloomington man was arrested Tuesday evening for defacing the Washington Monument.
44-year-old Shaun Deaton allegedly put red paint and a “profane message” on the monument, CNN reports. The National Mall and Memorial Parks group of the National Park Service Tweeted that removing the paint will require many rounds of treatment, but the process has already begun.
Deaton has been charged with trespassing, tampering and vandalism.
Police are still investigating. If you know anything about this, please call the U.S. Park Police tip line.
