The high increase in business with the production of tofu in large quantities has the potential to cause environmental pollution problems. In a day the average waste produced by one producer can reach approximately 5 drums with a volume of 90 liters each.Tofu liquid waste contains Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), which are substances that are harmful to the environment, especially pollution of river water and groundwater around residential areas."Tofu liquid waste is technically very problematic for the environment, so we are trying to find a solution through a sustainable technology. Of course we need a change agent in the field," said Pak Jamalludin as chairman of the Tinalan Village Community. This is used by the 2022 UM Service Team Students in Tinalan to make the waste problem the focus of the problem to be solved in the Community Service Work Program."We have done several literature reviews and found a solution that is expected to be useful for residents around here (Tinalan Village). It turns out that tofu liquid waste has the potential to be recycled into fertilizer," Diana explained. The manufacture is by mixing tofu liquid waste (1L) with EM4 (50ml), brown sugar water (50ml), coconut water (300ml), and rice washing water (400ml) in a closed container. The fermentation process will take 14 days.On the 10th day, the lid was opened to assist the process of reducing BOD, COD and TSS levels.Service students from UM also empower and rearrange the Green House in Tinalan Gg 3 Village which was previously inactive due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
